Track 15 - The Walls of
Pickering Castle
Dating from 270BC Pickering is now a busy tourist centre and the southern terminus of the North Yorks Moors Railway providing connections with Levisham, Goathland, Grosmont and Whitby (Heartbeat Country). It also boasts a castle, which features a fine motte-and-bailey with shell keep founded by William the Conqueror. Remains include later curtain walls with three towers, a keep and two halls.
